Coal India Appoints Rajiva Kumar Singh as Executive Director (Exploration) to Boost Resource Evaluation

Senior geologist with 30+ years of experience joins CIL to strengthen exploration, strategic planning, and contribute to India’s energy security.

Kolkata: Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna company and the largest coal producer in India, has announced the appointment of Mr. Rajiva Kumar Singh as Executive Director (Exploration), effective from 29 December 2025. The position, one level below the Board of Directors, places Mr. Singh in a key role to strengthen CIL’s geological exploration and resource evaluation initiatives.

Veteran Geologist Brings Over 30 Years of Expertise

Mr. Singh is a senior geologist with more than three decades of experience in geological exploration and resource assessment. An alumnus of Science College, Patna, and Patna University, he holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Geology. Over the past ten years, he has played significant leadership roles at Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) and served as Nodal Officer to the Ministry of Coal for both promotional and detailed exploration projects.

His extensive experience positions him to strengthen CIL’s exploration capabilities, improve resource assessment processes, and contribute to strategic planning for the company’s long-term operational and energy security goals.

Focus on Strategic Resource Planning and Sustainable Growth

CIL’s official statement highlighted that Mr. Singh’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging experienced professionals in leadership positions to drive operational excellence, sustainable growth, and innovation. As Executive Director (Exploration), Singh will oversee programs to modernize geological practices, enhance coal resource evaluation, and ensure that exploration activities align with India’s energy security objectives.

Rajiva Kumar Singh is a seasoned geologist with over 30 years of expertise in exploration and resource evaluation. Prior to joining Coal India, he held key leadership positions at CMPDIL and served as Nodal Officer to the Ministry of Coal, playing a pivotal role in national exploration initiatives. His academic foundation and professional experience make him well-suited to drive CIL’s exploration and resource management strategies.
