New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has marked a significant step in its sustainability journey by commissioning its first-ever 5 MW Solar Power Plant at the Balakudra Old OB Dump of Balakudra Open Cast Project (OCP) in the Barkasayal Area of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The plant has begun supplying clean power to the grid, showcasing the productive reuse of mined-out land for renewable energy generation.
This landmark initiative reflects Coal India’s growing focus on clean energy transition and environmental responsibility.
Project Execution and Implementation
The Bhoomi Pooja for the solar project was conducted in January 2025, following which the project was executed efficiently by CMPDI, Regional Institute–III, Ranchi. CMPDI also served as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), providing comprehensive end-to-end support including planning, design, execution, and monitoring of the project.
The commissioning of the plant within a short timeframe demonstrates strong project management and technical expertise.
