Kolkata: In a strategic move aimed at enhancing coal transportation efficiency, two of India’s leading Public Sector Undertakings — Coal India Limited (CIL) and IRCON International Limited — signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday in Kolkata to collaborate on developing and upgrading rail infrastructure for CIL and its subsidiaries.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical), Coal India Ltd, and Mr. Ajit Kumar Mishra, Director (Works), IRCON International Ltd, in the presence of Coal India Chairman Mr. P.M. Prasad and senior officials from both organizations.

Partnership to Boost Coal Evacuation Efficiency

Under the terms of the MoU, IRCON will bring its extensive expertise in railway infrastructure development to conceptualize, plan, design, execute, and manage rail projects specifically tailored to the needs of CIL and its subsidiaries. The collaboration is expected to significantly improve coal evacuation and transportation capabilities, a key factor in supporting India’s growing energy demand and ensuring seamless supply chain operations.

This partnership marks a critical step in aligning infrastructure development with the operational goals of Coal India, especially in enhancing the logistics backbone that supports coal mining and distribution across the country.
