Who Is K. Manjulakshmi? IAS Officer Takes Charge as PMRDA Additional Commissioner

Mumbai: K. Manjulakshmi, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, has taken charge as the Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Her appointment is expected to boost infrastructure development and improve project execution across the rapidly expanding Pune metropolitan region.

Takes Charge at PMRDA

On Friday, Manjulakshmi formally assumed her new role at PMRDA. She was welcomed by Abhijeet Chaudhari, who extended his best wishes for her tenure.

Soon after taking charge, she reviewed ongoing projects and outlined her priorities, focusing on accelerating public welfare and infrastructure initiatives.

“Under the guidance of the Metropolitan Commissioner, I will ensure better coordination among all departments and timely completion of projects,” she said.

Focus on Infrastructure and Urban Growth

With Pune witnessing rapid urban expansion, Manjulakshmi emphasized the need for faster execution of development projects and stronger inter-departmental coordination.

Her appointment comes at a crucial time when several large-scale infrastructure projects are underway in the region.

Key Projects Under PMRDA

Officials believe her experience will help fast-track major projects, including:

  • Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3
  • Ring Road Project
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Distinguished Administrative Career

Manjulakshmi has held several important positions in the Maharashtra administration:

  • District Collector, Sindhudurg (2020–2023), including during the COVID-19 period
  • Administrator, Kolhapur Municipal Corporation
  • Municipal Commissioner, Kolhapur

During her tenure in Kolhapur, she played a key role in:

  • Strengthening urban infrastructure
  • Improving sanitation and civic services
  • Promoting city development programmes

She also contributed to notable projects such as the reconstruction of Keshavrao Bhosale Natyagruha and development of parking facilities near the Mahalaxmi Temple area.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1986 and originally from Kerala, Manjulakshmi has a strong academic background in economics.

  • Graduate degree in Economics from Kerala University
  • Master’s degree in Economics from Central University, Hyderabad

She is known for her academic excellence and administrative capabilities and is proficient in English, Malayalam, and Marathi.

Role and Expectations

As Additional Commissioner of PMRDA, she will play a key role in planning and executing infrastructure projects across the Pune Metropolitan Region.

Her experience in urban governance and district administration is expected to bring renewed momentum to ongoing projects and strengthen urban planning efforts.
