New Delhi: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has taken a major step towards strengthening India’s technology commercialisation ecosystem by transferring four indigenous technologies to industry partners and launching an advanced IoT-enabled rural water service delivery, measurement, and monitoring system.

The technology transfer event was organised at CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi, by CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), Chandigarh. The programme brought together CSIR scientists, industry partners, technology adopters, and strategic stakeholders to promote innovation, industry collaboration, and indigenous technology development.

The event also recognised the royalty received from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Panchkula, for licensed production of indigenous defence technologies developed by CSIR-CSIO.

Four CSIR Technologies Licensed for Industrial Production

During the event, CSIR-CSIO transferred four advanced technologies to industry for commercial applications.

The technologies include:

1. Induction Motor Stethoscope (MSCOPE)

The Induction Motor Stethoscope (MSCOPE) is designed for monitoring the health and performance of induction motors. The technology enables early detection of faults, helping industries improve maintenance efficiency and reduce equipment downtime.

2. Portable & Universal Motor-cum-Pump Performance Monitor (PU-MPPM)

The Portable & Universal Motor-cum-Pump Performance Monitor (PU-MPPM) helps in assessing the operational efficiency and performance of motors and pumps. It provides industries with a reliable solution for monitoring energy efficiency and equipment performance.

3. i-Power Quality Analyser (IPQA)

The i-Power Quality Analyser (IPQA) is an advanced instrument designed for analysing electrical power quality parameters. It supports industries in improving power management and ensuring efficient operation of electrical systems.

The above three technologies were licensed to M/s Pump Academy Private Limited, Bengaluru.

4. Optical Module and Beam Combiner Assembly for Head-Up Display (HUD)

The Optical Module and Beam Combiner Assembly for Head-Up Display (HUD) technology developed for SU-30 aircraft programmes was transferred to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Panchkula.

This technology will support indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and strengthen India’s self-reliance in military avionics systems.

Smart IoT-Based Rural Water Monitoring Technology Launched

A major highlight of the event was the commercial launch of the Affordable IoT-enabled Water Service Delivery, Measurement and Monitoring Sensing System for Rural Deployment.

The technology was launched through M/s Biometry Technologies Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

The smart system is designed to provide real-time monitoring of rural water services by tracking:

  • Water quality parameters
  • Water quantity and availability
  • Service delivery performance
  • Rural water supply management

The technology is expected to support efficient water management and improve access to reliable drinking water services in rural areas.

CSIR-CSIO Receives ₹1.67 Crore Royalty from BEL

During the programme, CSIR-CSIO highlighted its successful technology commercialisation efforts and industry collaborations.

The laboratory received ₹1.67 crore as royalty from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Panchkula, during the financial year 2025-26 for licensed production of indigenous military avionics technologies.

The royalty was received for technologies including:

  • Head-Up Display (HUD)
  • Drogue Lights
  • Taxi Landing Lights
  • HUD I Level Tester
  • Boresight Alignment Tool

The achievement reflects CSIR-CSIO’s continued contribution to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and indigenous technology development.

Dr. N. Kalaiselvi Highlights Importance of Technology Commercialisation

The event was attended by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), along with senior officials, scientists, and industry representatives from CSIR Headquarters and CSIR-CSIO.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kalaiselvi congratulated the CSIR-CSIO team for successfully transferring technologies and accelerating commercialisation initiatives.

She highlighted the importance of converting scientific research into practical products and solutions that benefit industries and society.

She also appreciated CSIR-CSIO’s efforts in:

  • Increasing external cash flow (ECF)
  • Expanding industry partnerships
  • Promoting technology transfer
  • Supporting national priorities through innovation

Dr. Kalaiselvi encouraged scientists across the CSIR network to focus on impactful, industry-oriented research aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

CSIR-CSIO’s Growing Role in Indigenous Innovation

Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya, Director of CSIR-CSIO, presented an overview of the laboratory’s technology transfer achievements and commercialisation ecosystem.

He emphasised that CSIR-CSIO continues to strengthen partnerships with industries by developing technologies that address national requirements in areas such as:

  • Defence and aerospace
  • Industrial automation
  • Electrical systems monitoring
  • Rural infrastructure development
  • Smart technology solutions

The successful transfer of these technologies highlights CSIR’s commitment to transforming research innovations into commercially viable solutions.
