New Delhi: Indian Railways has witnessed a major surge in digital passenger services with its RailOne App crossing 4.55 crore downloads and facilitating an average of 9.65 lakh ticket bookings every day. The railway ministry has also intensified cybersecurity and anti-fraud measures to ensure secure online ticket booking and prevent misuse of the reservation system.
The information was provided by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to questions in the Lok Sabha.
RailOne App Becomes Popular Digital Platform for Railway Services
To improve passenger convenience and provide multiple railway services on a single platform, Indian Railways launched the RailOne App on July 1, 2025.
The app is available on:
- Android Play Store
- Apple App Store
RailOne combines several passenger-facing services of Indian Railways into one integrated platform, including:
- Reserved ticket booking
- Unreserved ticket booking
- Platform ticket booking
- Train enquiry services
- PNR enquiry
- RailMadad grievance services
- Other passenger support facilities
The app effectively brings railway reservation services directly to passengers’ mobile phones.
RailOne App Usage Highlights
- More than 4.55 crore downloads recorded so far.
- Around 9.65 lakh tickets booked daily on average.
- Daily booking includes:
- 2.75 lakh reserved tickets
- 6.89 lakh unreserved tickets
The growing adoption of RailOne reflects the increasing shift towards digital railway services in India.
RailMadad Improves Passenger Grievance Redressal System
Indian Railways’ RailMadad platform provides passengers with an integrated system for registering complaints, seeking assistance, and sharing feedback.
Passengers can access RailMadad through:
- Helpline number 139
- RailMadad website
- Mobile app
- SMS service
The platform uses automated complaint assignment and escalation mechanisms to ensure timely resolution of passenger issues.
RailMadad categorises complaints and assistance requests across more than 30 train and station-related categories to improve service efficiency.
RailMadad Performance
During the financial year 2025-26:
- 6,94,368 passenger assistance cases were handled.
- 89.49% passengers provided excellent or satisfactory feedback.
The grievance resolution performance of Indian Railways remained consistently high:
- 2023-24:
- 99.98% grievances resolved
- 2024-25:
- 99.99% grievances resolved
- 2025-26:
- 99.98% grievances resolved
Indian Railways Strengthens Cybersecurity for Online Ticket Booking
Indian Railways has implemented multiple advanced cybersecurity measures to protect its online reservation system from cyber threats, automated attacks, and fraudulent booking activities.
The reservation system uses industry-standard security controls, including:
- Application security measures
- Network protection systems
- Data centre security
- Cyber threat monitoring
- Anti-bot technology
- Digital risk protection systems
Aadhaar Authentication Introduced for Tatkal Ticket Booking
To prevent misuse of Tatkal ticket booking and restrict fake accounts, Indian Railways has introduced Aadhaar-based verification measures.
Key measures include:
- Aadhaar authentication for online Tatkal ticket booking.
- Aadhaar-based OTP verification on selected trains.
- Restriction of Tatkal ticket booking to Aadhaar-verified users.
- Prevention of multiple fake accounts controlled by unauthorised agents.
These steps aim to ensure fair access to tickets for genuine passengers.
Over 6.68 Crore Suspicious User Accounts Deactivated
As part of anti-fraud measures, Indian Railways has conducted strict verification of user accounts.
Between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026:
- More than 6.68 crore user accounts were deactivated due to suspicious activity.
- More than 6.22 crore accounts were temporarily suspended with an option for revalidation.
The accounts were identified based on suspicious parameters such as:
- Unusual mobile numbers
- Suspicious email domains
- Irregular IP addresses
- Other abnormal booking patterns
Indian Railways clarified that user accounts were not deactivated due to non-linking of Aadhaar.
530 Cyber Crime Complaints and 13,343 Suspicious Domains Blocked
To tackle online fraud and suspicious booking activities, Indian Railways has taken additional action.
During 2025-26 and 2026-27 (up to June 30, 2026):
- 530 suspicious booking complaints were registered on the National Cyber Crime Portal.
- 13,343 suspicious email domains were blocked.
Regular security audits are conducted by CERT-In empanelled information security audit agencies to identify vulnerabilities and strengthen the reservation system.
Advanced Network Security Measures Protect Railway Systems
Indian Railways has deployed multiple security technologies to safeguard its online ticketing infrastructure.
Major security measures include:
Application Layer Security
- Protection against scripting attacks.
- Prevention of brute-force attacks.
- Defence against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
- Compliance with OWASP application security practices.
Network and Infrastructure Security
The railway ticketing system is protected through:
- Network firewalls
- Intrusion prevention systems
- Application delivery controllers
- Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
- Secure DNS services
- Enterprise Content Delivery Network (CDN)
The system also has nearly 30 Gbps DDoS mitigation capacity through multiple Internet Service Providers.
Physical Security
The reservation system is hosted at a secure captive data centre facility in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, featuring:
- CCTV monitoring
- Restricted physical access
- ISO 27001 certification
24×7 Cyber Monitoring
The system is continuously monitored through:
- CERT-In Threat and Situational Awareness Projects (TSAP)
- National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC)
- Dedicated cybersecurity teams
Anti-Bot Technology Blocks Millions of Malicious Requests
Indian Railways has implemented Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Anti-BOT technology to improve system performance and protect genuine users.
Anti-BOT technology helps reduce malicious traffic and prevents automated misuse of the ticket booking platform.
During the last six months, a significant number of automated bot requests were blocked:
June 2026:
- Total requests: 19.12 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 12.61 billion (65.95%)
May 2026:
- Total requests: 20.07 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 12.08 billion (60.18%)
April 2026:
- Total requests: 17.33 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 10.64 billion (61.39%)
March 2026:
- Total requests: 12.44 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 5.71 billion (45.90%)
February 2026:
- Total requests: 11.01 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 5.01 billion (45.50%)
January 2026:
- Total requests: 12.35 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 7.26 billion (58.78%)
Average for the last six months:
- Total requests: 15.38 billion
- Bot requests blocked: 8.88 billion (57.74%)
22,676 Railway Touts Arrested in Five Years
Indian Railways has also taken action against illegal ticket touting activities.
Between 2021 and 2025 and up to June 2026:
- 22,676 touts were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
- Legal action was initiated under relevant provisions of the Railways Act, 1989.
89% Railway Tickets Booked Online in One Year
The adoption of digital ticketing has increased significantly.
Between June 2025 and June 2026, Indian Railways booked a total of 65.08 crore reserved tickets.
The booking pattern was:
- Online bookings: 57.90 crore tickets (89%)
- Counter bookings: 7.18 crore tickets (11%)
The figures indicate a strong passenger preference for online railway services and digital platforms.
The initiatives aim to improve passenger convenience while ensuring that genuine travellers get fair access to railway reservation services.
