Raipur: Indian Railways has approved a major signalling modernisation project worth ₹226 crore to install Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems at 13 stations in the Durg–Taroki section of the Raipur Division under South East Central Railway (SECR). The move aims to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency across the network.
The announcement was made on July 1, 2026, as part of Indian Railways’ ongoing push to modernise its signalling infrastructure with advanced technology.
Replacement of Old Signalling System with Electronic Interlocking
The approved project involves replacing the existing Panel Interlocking (PI) system with Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 13 stations. This upgrade will enable safer and more automated train operations, reducing human intervention and improving system reliability.
The transition is expected to significantly enhance operational flexibility and strengthen the overall signalling framework on this key railway section.

Stations Covered Under the Project
The Electronic Interlocking system will be installed at the following stations in the Durg–Taroki section of Raipur Division:
- Marauda (MXA)
- Risama (RSA)
- Gundardehi (GDZ)
- Latabor (LBO)
- Balod (BXA)
- Kusumkasa (KYS)
- Dalli Rajhara (DRZ)
- Gudum (GUDM)
- Bhanupratappur (BPTP)
- Keoti (KETI)
- Antagarh (AAGH)
- Taroki (TDOK)
- Raipur Store Depot (RSD)
How Electronic Interlocking Improves Railway Safety
Electronic Interlocking is an advanced signalling technology that automates route setting and signal control with built-in safety mechanisms. It ensures that train movements are more controlled and reduces the risk of signalling errors.
Key benefits of the upgrade include:
- Improved operational safety
- Reduced chances of signalling failures
- Faster restoration during disruptions
- Better train punctuality
- Enhanced system reliability
Boost to Efficiency and Capacity in SECR Network
The project is expected to significantly improve train operations on the South East Central Railway network, particularly in handling increasing passenger and freight traffic.
By modernising signalling infrastructure, Indian Railways aims to ensure smoother operations, higher efficiency, and better capacity management on critical routes.
Part of Indian Railways Modernisation Drive
The approval is part of Indian Railways’ broader programme to upgrade signalling systems across the country using advanced technologies. The initiative focuses on building a safer, smarter, and more efficient railway network to meet future transportation demands.
