New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully launched a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at the Manoharpura Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan, marking another major step toward barrier-free and digital highway infrastructure in India.
This follows the recent rollout of Rajasthan’s first MLFF system at the Daulatpura Toll Plaza on June 19, 2026. NHAI is also planning to extend the system to the Shahjahanpur toll plaza, further streamlining travel on this busy corridor.
What is the MLFF Tolling System?
The Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system enables barrier-less tolling, allowing vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping. The system ensures seamless traffic movement with minimal human intervention.
It integrates:
- FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection
- Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology
This combination enables automated toll deduction while maintaining uninterrupted vehicular movement.
Benefits: Faster Travel, Fuel Savings and Lower Emissions
The introduction of MLFF technology is a major advancement in India’s digital highway infrastructure. It offers several benefits, including:
- Zero waiting time at toll plazas
- Smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Reduced vehicle emissions
- Enhanced commuter convenience
The system also aligns with the Government of India’s vision of promoting Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business through technology-driven solutions.
Expansion Plans on Delhi–Jaipur Highway
After successful implementation at Manoharpura, NHAI is planning to transition the Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza to the MLFF system. This will make the entire Delhi–Jaipur stretch of NH-48 more efficient and commuter-friendly.
The corridor is one of the busiest national highway routes, and the upgrade is expected to significantly reduce congestion and travel time.
FASTag Compliance and E-Notice System
To ensure smooth operation of the MLFF system, highway users must maintain a sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts.
In cases such as:
- Insufficient FASTag balance
- Invalid or non-functional FASTag
Users will receive an Electronic Notice (E-Notice) for non-payment of toll charges.
Key rules include:
- Payment required within 72 hours of E-Notice
- Failure to pay results in double toll charges
- Payments can be made via the official portal: https://nhfeenotice.parivahan.gov.in
- Available also through the Rajmargyatra App
Strengthening India’s Digital Tolling Ecosystem
The MLFF rollout is part of NHAI’s broader effort to modernise toll collection across the country. It enhances transparency, reduces operational costs of physical toll plazas, and improves overall efficiency in highway operations.
The initiative represents a major step toward building a smarter, faster and more efficient national highway network in India.
