New Delhi/Jaipur: The Indian Armed Forces have witnessed a significant leadership transition with three senior officers assuming some of the country’s most crucial military appointments. Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra has taken over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), South Western Command, Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain has assumed charge as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS), while Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has taken over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS) of the Indian Air Force.
The appointments place three highly decorated officers with decades of operational, command and strategic experience at the helm of key military formations responsible for India’s defence preparedness across multiple domains.
Lt Gen Mohit Malhotra Takes Command of Jaipur-Based South Western Command
Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra, AVSM, SM, has assumed the appointment of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Jaipur-based South Western Command, one of the Indian Army’s most strategically important operational commands.
Commissioned into the 47 Armoured Regiment in June 1989, Lt Gen Malhotra brings more than 37 years of distinguished military service, having served in a wide range of command, instructional and staff appointments.

Before taking over the South Western Command, he served as the Chief of Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, where he played a key role in enhancing operational preparedness, organisational effectiveness and institutional cohesion.

Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, AVSM, SM, has taken over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS).
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), he was commissioned into the MAHAR Regiment in June 1988 and has nearly four decades of distinguished military service.

During his career, Lt Gen Jain has commanded formations across diverse operational environments.
His command appointments include:
- Infantry Battalion in semi-desert terrain
- Infantry Battalion in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan
- Infantry Brigade in a Strike Corps
- Counter-Insurgency Force
- Pivot Corps in Northern Command
- Corps Commander in Northern Command
- General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command
He also served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters Southern Command, where he contributed significantly to force restructuring, capability development and operational preparedness.

The Indian Air Force has also witnessed a key leadership transition with Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM, assuming charge as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff on July 1, 2026.
He succeeds Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, who retired on June 30 after completing four decades of service.

Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on December 6, 1986, Air Marshal Dixit has accumulated more than 3,500 flying hours during an illustrious career spanning nearly four decades.

he is both an Experimental Test Pilot and a Qualified Flying Instructor.
