SJVN Completes 72-Hour Trial Run of 660 MW Buxar Unit-2; Commercial Operation Set to Begin

Shimla/Bihar: SJVN Limited has successfully completed the 72-hour trial run of the 660 MW Unit-2 of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar, marking a major milestone ahead of the unit’s commercial operation.

The successful trial run was completed on August 31, 2026, by SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. With the trial successfully completed, the company is now preparing to commence commercial operation of Unit-2.

SJVN Buxar Unit-2 Completes 72-Hour Trial Run

The continuous 72-hour trial run is an important stage in the commissioning process of a thermal power generating unit. It demonstrates the unit’s ability to operate reliably and maintain stable generation over an extended period.

SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta congratulated employees and stakeholders on the achievement and said the company is now ready for the commercial operation of Unit-2.

Buxar Project Strengthens SJVN’s Thermal Power Portfolio

The Buxar Thermal Power Project has a total installed capacity of 1,320 MW, comprising two units of 660 MW each.

The successful trial of Unit-2 brings the company closer to full commissioning of the project and further strengthens SJVN’s generation portfolio.

Director (Finance) Parthajit De said the successful trial run strengthens SJVN’s generation portfolio and reinforces its position as a multi-dimensional energy company.

Director (Projects) Rajesh Kumar Chandel described the development as an important milestone in SJVN’s thermal power journey.

Buxar Thermal Power Project Uses Supercritical Technology

The Buxar project is being developed by STPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, and uses state-of-the-art supercritical technology.

The project has been designed with advanced technology aimed at improving generation efficiency while reducing the environmental impact associated with thermal power generation.

SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma described the achievement as a significant milestone and praised the project team for its hard work, professionalism and commitment.
