New Delhi: State-run SJVN Ltd. and Juniper Green Energy Limited, through its subsidiary Juniper Nirjara Energy Private Limited, have signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 50 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project under the SJVN FDRE-2 scheme.

The PPA has been signed at a tariff of ₹4.25 per unit for a tenure of 25 years. The project is aimed at providing reliable renewable power with the ability to meet supply requirements during peak demand periods.

SJVN FDRE-2 Tender Issued Under Competitive Bidding

The project was awarded under the SJVN FDRE-2 tender, which was issued in accordance with the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) guidelines.

Juniper Green Energy received the Letter of Award (LOA) on February 3, 2025, following the competitive bidding process.

The key PPA details are:

  • Project capacity: 50 MW
  • Project type: Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE)
  • PPA tenure: 25 years
  • Tariff: ₹4.25 per unit
  • Award: SJVN FDRE-2
  • LOA received: February 3, 2025

Project to Provide Peak-Hour Renewable Power

Under the agreement, the project will be required to provide four hours of peak-hour supply with 90% monthly availability.

The project will also have to meet the minimum annual Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) specified under the bid requirements.

These conditions are intended to ensure that renewable power is available when demand is high, addressing one of the key challenges associated with variable renewable energy generation.

Solar and Battery Storage to Power FDRE Project

The 50 MW project will combine multiple renewable energy technologies to meet the supply obligations under the PPA.

The project will use:

  • Solar power generation
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

The combination of renewable generation and energy storage will enable the project to provide electricity in a more reliable and dispatchable manner, particularly during peak demand hours.

Juniper Green Energy Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio

With the addition of the project, Juniper Green Energy’s portfolio has reached 11,216 MWp of renewable energy capacity.

The company’s portfolio is also complemented by 8,989 MWh of BESS capacity, strengthening its position as an integrated renewable energy platform.

Juniper Green Energy focuses on developing, constructing and operating utility-scale renewable energy projects across solar, wind, hybrid and FDRE segments.

Juniper Green Energy Highlights Growing Importance of FDRE

Ankush Malik, Wholetime Director & CEO, Juniper Green Energy Limited, said the PPA with SJVN strengthens the partnership between the two companies and represents another step in the company’s strategy to develop a large-scale portfolio of FDRE projects.

He highlighted the growing importance of delivering renewable energy during periods of peak demand as India’s power system evolves.

According to Malik, Juniper Green Energy’s capabilities in solar generation and battery energy storage allow it to develop renewable energy solutions that combine clean power with greater reliability and dispatchability.

The company said it will continue to focus on large-scale clean energy projects supporting India’s transition towards a more sustainable and resilient power system.

FDRE Projects Gain Importance in India’s Energy Transition

Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy projects are designed to address the intermittency of renewable power by combining generation technologies with energy storage.

The SJVN FDRE-2 project reflects the growing focus on renewable energy solutions that can provide electricity according to defined supply requirements rather than only when renewable resources are available.

About SJVN

SJVN Limited is a state-owned power generation and renewable energy company engaged in the development and operation of hydro, solar, wind and other renewable energy projects. The company is expanding its clean energy portfolio as part of its broader strategy to support India’s growing power requirements and energy transition.
