SJVN Commissions 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Bihar, Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio 

The solar project will generate 90 million units in its first year, supply renewable power to Bihar and reduce an estimated 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions.

New Delhi: SJVN Limited has achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Bihar, further expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The project has been developed through SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN.

Located near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, in Jamui district, the solar project has been developed across around 300 acres at an estimated cost of ₹342 crore. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to Bihar.

75 MW Jamui Solar Project to Generate 90 Million Units

The Jamui Solar Power Project is expected to generate approximately 90 million units of electricity during its first year of operation.

Over its estimated 25-year operational life, the project is expected to generate around 3,522 million units of electricity.

The project was developed pursuant to a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), Government of Bihar.

Power Tariff Fixed at ₹2.96 Per Unit

The tariff for electricity generated by the project has been fixed at ₹2.96 per unit.

SJVN said the competitive tariff will support the supply of affordable and clean electricity while helping meet Bihar’s growing renewable energy requirements.

The project will add renewable power to the state’s electricity supply and contribute to the transition towards cleaner energy.

Project Creates Direct and Indirect Employment

The solar project has also contributed to economic activity in the Jamui region.

According to SJVN, the project has generated:

  • 15–20 direct employment opportunities
  • Around 50–100 indirect employment opportunities

The project is expected to support green jobs and create additional economic opportunities for communities around the project area.

Jamui Solar Project to Reduce Over 82,000 Tonnes of Carbon Emissions

The commissioning of the project is also expected to contribute to India’s clean energy and decarbonisation objectives.

SJVN estimates that the 75 MW solar project will help reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The project also supports the Government of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

With the Jamui project now commercially operational, SJVN will contribute additional renewable electricity to Bihar while supporting the country’s broader transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy system.
