New Delhi: In a long-awaited move, the government has approved ad-hoc promotions for several officers of the Central Secretariat Service (CSS), elevating them from Assistant Section Officers (ASOs) to Section Officers (SOs).
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the promotion orders recently, bringing much-needed relief to a large number of officers who have been waiting for their elevation for years. The decision enables eligible officers to take charge of higher responsibilities while the regular Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) process is still under progress.
Ad-Hoc Promotions to Strengthen Administrative Efficiency
The ad-hoc promotions are expected to address functional gaps and strengthen administrative efficiency across various Ministries and Departments under the Central Secretariat. Officials believe the move will ensure smoother workflow and improved policy implementation at the central level.
According to sources, the government is also working toward clearing pending promotions and regularizing cadre management within the CSS through phased reforms.
CSS Forum Expresses Gratitude to Government
The CSS Forum, the official representative body of Central Secretariat officers, has expressed gratitude to Hon’ble MoS (Personnel) Dr. Jitendra Singh and the Secretary of DoPT for approving the long-pending ad-hoc promotions of the ASO 2014 batch.
In a statement shared on social media, the forum said, “These officers were on the verge of getting MACP, and your timely decision has brought much-needed relief. Your continued support has always inspired the CSS fraternity, will boost officer morale, and will surely enhance overall government efficiency.”
Forum Requests Further Action on Cadre Reforms
While welcoming the move, the CSS Forum also urged the government to expedite other pending cadre matters.
“We humbly request early clearance of the 4th Cadre Review Committee (CRC), pending for over seven years, and the grant of Non-Functional Upgradation (NFU) to ensure long-overdue justice to the deserving CSS cadre,” the forum said.
The CSS constitutes the backbone of administrative functioning in the Central Government, supporting policy formulation and implementation across all Ministries and Departments.
