Gujarat: In a major move to strengthen port-led development and enhance logistics efficiency, the government approved the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Deendayal Port in Gujarat at a cost of Rs 132.51 crore. The project was sanctioned by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Enhancing Port Connectivity and Trade Efficiency
The proposed ROB aims to eliminate critical bottlenecks at the port, ensuring seamless movement across rail crossings. By improving cargo flow and reducing congestion, the project is expected to significantly strengthen India’s maritime logistics chain and enhance the efficiency of cargo evacuation.
“This project reflects our commitment to modern, efficient, and seamless port-led connectivity under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Sonowal.

The construction will be undertaken by Western Railway on a deposit basis, following appraisal by the Delegated Investment Board (DIB) and approval after ensuring compliance with modern safety and technical standards.
Expected Benefits of the Project
Once completed, the ROB at Deendayal Port is expected to:
- Reduce congestion at critical rail crossings
- Ensure uninterrupted port-bound cargo movement
- Improve operational efficiency and safety at the port
- Strengthen India’s position as a global maritime hub
- Facilitate faster evacuation of goods, accelerating trade and economic growth
Sonowal emphasized, “We are building integrated infrastructure that accelerates trade, enhances safety, and supports economic growth. This is a decisive step towards world-class port infrastructure.”
