New Delhi: The Ex-Agniveer Recruitment in CAPFs has received a major update from the Government of India. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has created a new recruitment category for former Agniveers applying for Constable (General Duty) posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles. Eligible candidates will get 50% reservation, age relaxation, and exemption from several recruitment tests, according to an official statement given in the Lok Sabha.
The announcement was made by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply in Parliament. The decision aims to provide better career opportunities to former Agniveers after they complete their service under the Agnipath Scheme.
What Is the New Ex-Agniveer Recruitment Category
The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially created a separate recruitment category for Ex-Agniveers in CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
This category will apply to recruitment for:
- Constable (General Duty) in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)
- Rifleman in Assam Rifles (AR)
The government says the move will make it easier for trained former Agniveers to join India’s central security forces.
What Benefits Will Ex-Agniveers Get
The government has announced several important benefits for eligible Ex-Agniveers.
1. 50% Reservation in Vacancies
Former Agniveers will receive 50% reservation in the newly created recruitment category for eligible posts. This reservation is aimed at giving trained military personnel better employment opportunities after their service.
2. Three Years Age Relaxation
Eligible Ex-Agniveers will receive three years of relaxation in the upper age limit while applying for recruitment. This allows more candidates to become eligible for the recruitment process.
3. Five Years Age Relaxation for First Batch
Candidates from the first batch of Ex-Agniveers will receive an additional benefit. They will get five years of age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit.
4. Exemption from Recruitment Tests
Eligible Ex-Agniveers will not have to appear for several stages of the recruitment process. They will be exempted from:
- Physical Standards Test (PST)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Written Examination
These exemptions recognize the military training and experience gained during their service.
Why Has the Government Introduced Ex-Agniveer Recruitment in CAPFs
The Government of India wants to ensure that trained Agniveers have good career opportunities after leaving the armed forces. Since they already receive military training and discipline, the government believes they can strengthen CAPFs and Assam Rifles without repeating the same selection process. Ex-Agniveer Recruitment in CAPFs: Dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing Established
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also created a dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing. Its role is to coordinate the future career progression and employment opportunities of former Agniveers after their military service.
The government also informed Parliament that the first batch of Agniveers has not yet completed its term of engagement, but the recruitment system has already been prepared for their induction.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai confirmed that the Centre has created a new Ex-Agniveer recruitment category. He also confirmed the provisions for:
