Delhi: In a decisive move to tackle rising pollution levels, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched the Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan-2026. The initiative aims to curb vehicular emissions, dust pollution, industrial pollution, and waste-related pollution, reinforcing the government’s commitment to clean air and sustainable urban living.
Strict Measures on Vehicles and Emissions
CM Rekha Gupta confirmed that the No PUC, No Fuel policy will continue, ensuring that only vehicles with valid pollution certificates are allowed on Delhi roads. The government has identified 11 major pollution sources, including vehicle emissions, road dust, construction activities, factories, and biomass burning, and developed specific work plans with timelines and accountability for each sector.

Circular Economy Projects to Reduce Waste Pollution
Under the new action plan, E-Waste Eco Parks and other circular economy projects will help reduce pollution from waste. The government has set ambitious targets for scientific waste management:
- Okhla Waste Site: To be closed by July 2026
- Bhalswa Waste Site: To be closed by December 2026
- Ghazipur Waste Site: To be closed by December 2027
Industrial units will be required to install online emission monitoring systems to track and reduce pollution.
Innovative Air Purification Technologies
As part of the Delhi Innovation Challenge, around 33 innovative prototypes have reached the second trial phase. These include:
- Solar-powered pole-mounted dust traps
- Devices capturing dust and smoke as carbon
- Electrostatic mist sprayers
- Smart dust suppression and monitoring systems
- Vehicle-mounted air purifiers
These technologies are designed to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality, with trials expected to begin in the first week of May 2026.
CAQM Steps Up Pollution Management
Following the high-pollution winter season, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has intensified efforts to control summer pollution. The 128th Enforcement Task Force meeting was conducted to issue strict instructions against activities that contribute to air pollution.
Despite rising pollution, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) was not implemented immediately, as authorities are monitoring upcoming rainfall patterns. As of Friday, Delhi’s AQI reached 266, marking a significant increase in pollution levels, and CAQM will reassess the situation on Saturday to decide further action.
Government Commitment to Clean Air
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the action plan is not just a policy announcement but a resource-backed, technically advanced, and strictly monitored initiative. With a focus on accountability, real-time monitoring, and innovative solutions, the Delhi government is aiming for measurable improvements in air quality while promoting sustainable urban living.
