New Delhi: With just days left for Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to retire on July 31, preparations for his farewell have officially begun, putting to rest any lingering speculation about an extension of his tenure. The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to announce the name of the next Commissioner of Delhi Police shortly, and the race among senior IPS officers has gained significant momentum.
Farewell Orders Issued, Ending Extension Speculation
Sources within Delhi Police headquarters confirmed that instructions for organizing a farewell ceremony at the New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp, have been issued. This effectively signals the end of Arora’s tenure without extension, despite earlier expectations of a possible continuation.
Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has had a distinguished career in multiple central forces and is known for his operational leadership and administrative acumen. His departure marks the beginning of a high-level selection process for one of India’s most sensitive and prestigious policing assignments.
Who Will Be the Next Delhi Police Commissioner?
The appointment of the next Delhi Police Commissioner is currently under active consideration at the Union Home Ministry. Several senior IPS officers are reportedly in the running, with three names leading the discussion:
- SBK Singh – Known for his tenure with the Delhi Police and strong administrative credentials.
- Praveer Ranjan – Former Special CP of Delhi Police, with a reputation for handling high-stakes law and order situations.
- Satish Golcha – Currently serving in a key leadership role and considered a front-runner due to his extensive experience and familiarity with Delhi’s policing environment.
The official announcement is expected before July 31, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership at the helm of the national capital’s police force.
