Patna: Didi Ki Rasoi has been launched at the Minority Residential School in Bihar Sharif, Nalanda, to provide clean, nutritious and quality food to around 300 students studying at the residential school.
The initiative has been launched by the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (JEEViKA). Women associated with JEEViKA will be responsible for operating the kitchen, creating opportunities for dignified livelihoods and economic empowerment.
The Didi Ki Rasoi was inaugurated by Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar. Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar and Deputy Development Commissioner Sara Ashraf were also present on the occasion.
Around 12 JEEViKA women will handle food preparation, serving and feeding the students, while another eight women will take care of cleaning and hygiene-related work.
Focus on Nutritious and Quality Food
The new kitchen will provide students with nutritious and quality meals in a clean and hygienic environment. The initiative aims to strengthen attention to food quality, nutrition and cleanliness at the residential school.
During the inauguration, Minister Shravan Kumar interacted with the JEEViKA women working at the kitchen and advised them to improve their efficiency while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality.
He also wished the women success in their efforts towards becoming financially self-reliant.

Livelihood Opportunities for JEEViKA Women
The initiative provides JEEViKA-linked women with an opportunity to earn a dignified livelihood while using their skills in cooking, food service and hygiene management.
Minister Kumar described the initiative as an important example of JEEViKA’s efforts to empower women from rural and disadvantaged communities by converting their skills into sustainable livelihood opportunities.
He said Didi Ki Rasoi brings together three key objectives — nutrition, hygiene and women’s empowerment.
The model therefore links student welfare with women’s economic empowerment, ensuring that better food services also create livelihood opportunities for women.
Strengthening Women’s Economic Empowerment
By involving local women in the operation of the kitchen, the initiative can help expand their participation in income-generating activities and strengthen their financial independence.
For the students, the arrangement provides access to regular meals prepared under a structured system, while the participating women gain work experience and an opportunity to build a sustainable source of income.
The initiative reflects the broader role of JEEViKA in connecting women’s skills with livelihood opportunities and supporting economic participation at the grassroots level.
Officials and JEEViKA personnel present at the event included District Project Manager Sanjay Prasad Paswan, Institution Building Manager Ram Pukar, Communication Manager Santosh Kumar, Human Resources Manager Binit Ranjan, Procurement Manager Priya Kumari, Block Project Manager Sudhir Kumar Dubey, Regional Coordinator Rahul Priyadarshi, and other JEEViKA personnel.
