Lucknow: The resignation of Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh-cadre, has been accepted by the central government, bringing her 13-year administrative career to an end.
The acceptance follows her voluntary resignation on August 30, when she cited personal reasons, family priorities and new life goals. The resignation will take effect from September 15, 2026, according to reports citing the notification issued by the Union government.
Divya Mittal Confirms Resignation Acceptance on X
After the resignation was formally accepted, Mittal shared the development on her X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts, writing:
“My resignation from the IAS has been accepted.”

She accompanied the post with the lines, “Prashast punya panth hai, badhe chalo, badhe chalo” (The path of virtue lies ahead; keep moving forward, keep moving forward).
The lines are from poet Jaishankar Prasad’s work and convey a message of continuing forward on a noble path.
From London Career to 13 Years in IAS
Mittal had worked in London before returning to India and pursuing a career in public service. She studied at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore before joining the civil services.
During her 13-year IAS career, she served in several Uttar Pradesh districts, including Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria, among other administrative assignments.
Recognition During Her Career
During her IAS training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, Divya Mittal received the Ashok Bambawale Award, which recognises outstanding performance among IAS probationers. She was also reported to have won first prize in two components of an innovation conference held at LBSNAA, becoming the only probationer to secure first place in both.
Mirzapur Tenure Brought Her Wider Recognition
Mittal became widely known during her tenure as District Magistrate of Mirzapur, particularly for her work to provide piped drinking water to Lahuria Dah, a remote hilltop village where residents had depended on tankers for water.
She later served as Deoria District Magistrate before being posted as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department in Lucknow in May 2026.

When she announced her resignation on August 30, Mittal described it as a voluntary decision and referred to an “unforgettable” 13-year journey.
She had indicated that her decision was linked to personal reasons, family priorities and new goals. There has been speculation about her future plans, including possible entry into electoral politics, but she has not publicly confirmed any such plan.
With the resignation now accepted, Mittal will formally cease to be an IAS officer from September 15.
