New Delhi: In a significant move to promote indigenous electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and clean mobility innovation, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ather Energy, a leading Indian EV manufacturer. This partnership aims to support the Build in Bharat initiative led by the Startup Policy Forum (SPF)—a coalition of over 50 innovation-driven startups.
Strategic Partnership to Drive Clean Mobility and Manufacturing Innovation
The DPIIT-Ather Energy MoU represents a strong public-private collaboration intended to scale up India’s manufacturing capabilities in the electric mobility sector. The collaboration is designed to serve as a catalyst for the development of a future-ready, self-reliant startup ecosystem, particularly in deep-tech and advanced clean mobility solutions.
The agreement will facilitate:
- Mentorship programs for deep-tech startups
- Infrastructure and incubation support in the EV value chain
- Joint innovation challenges such as the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge
- Talent and skills initiatives co-hosted by industry and government
- Participation in national startup events like Startup Mahakumbh
A Step Toward India’s Climate Goals and Startup Resilience
The partnership is expected to unlock new opportunities for early-stage startups and manufacturing-driven entrepreneurs by offering access to Ather’s industrial expertise and DPIIT’s policy support. It also aligns with India’s broader goals on climate action, decarbonization, and green mobility transition.
Sanjiv Singh, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, and Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, were present during the MoU signing.
‘Build in Bharat’ Initiative Gains Momentum
This collaboration under the Build in Bharat initiative demonstrates the government’s intent to transform India into a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and clean tech innovation. It further emphasizes the importance of deep-tech policy engagement, collaborative R&D, and ecosystem-wide coordination between startups, corporates, and public agencies.
The MoU is expected to serve as a template for future industry-government partnerships, fostering sustainable mobility solutions while building an ecosystem that nurtures Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives.
