Dr. SK Awasthi, a 1991 batch IFS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, takes over as the new Director General (DG) Forest in the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) today. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and was officially announced on December 23, 2024.
Dr. Awasthi takes over from IFS Jitendra Kumar, a 1987 batch officer of the AGMUT cadre who was previously serving as the DG Forest. Mr. Kumar, who is set to retire on January 31, 2025, was given a heartfelt farewell yesterday in recognition of his dedicated service.
Before his new appointment, Dr. Awasthi served as the Additional Director General of Forests (Wildlife) in MoEF&CC.
