The Union government is in mood to modify legislative norms of the age-old “Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.” Therefore a panel of 8 expert members is formed which is chaired by Drug controller general of India Dr V.G Somani.
The expert committee is formed by The ministry of health and family welfare, to fram the new cosmetics, drugs and medical devices bill titled as “Committee for framing of new Drugs, cosmetics and medical devices Act.” The experts will review the present norms and will modify it wherever needed.
Besides DCGI other members of the panel are Mr Rajiv wadhawan (director of ministry of health and family welfare), IAS officer Mr NL Meena, Dr Eswara Reddy (joint drug controller), and heads of drug control authorities from Gujarat, Haryana and Maharashtra.
