Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh: In a significant step toward bolstering its logistics capabilities and operational excellence, BEML Limited, a leading Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has laid the foundation stone for a Central Warehousing Centre in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. This modern facility is set to become a key hub in BEML’s nationwide supply chain network, streamlining operations across its core verticals.

Ground-Breaking Ceremony Led by CMD Shri Shantanu Roy

The foundation stone was ceremoniously laid by Mr Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML Ltd, in the distinguished presence of Mr Harish Duhan, CMD of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Also present were Mr Anil Jerath, Director (Finance) and Mr Sanjay Som, Director (Mining & Construction), BEML, alongside senior officials from BEML and SECL.

The event marks a pivotal milestone in BEML’s logistics strategy and aligns with the PSU’s mission to support India’s defense and industrial infrastructure more efficiently.

Enhancing Logistics Through Digitalization and Centralization

The upcoming Central Warehousing Centre will be equipped with fully digitalized systems, including bar code-based inventory management, allowing for real-time material tracking, optimized storage, and efficient dispatch of critical spare parts. This will enable dispatch within 24 to 48 hours of customer requests, significantly enhancing service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Strategic Location Serving Key Institutional Clients

Situated on 2.63 acres in Bilaspur, the warehouse enjoys a central location with an average proximity of 510 kilometers to BEML’s major institutional customers such as:

  • Coal India subsidiaries
  • SAIL
  • NTPC
  • MOIL
  • Hindustan Copper Limited

The strategic siting is expected to ensure faster service, reduced transit times, and improved inventory responsiveness.

Optimized Supply Chain and Rationalized Depot Network

The Bilaspur Centre is envisioned as a centralized logistics hub that will:

  • Consolidate materials under a unified warehousing framework
  • Rationalize existing depots into emergency or consignment stores for breakdown maintenance
  • Reduce inter-depot transport costs
  • Improve manpower utilization and process efficiency
  • This transformation supports BEML’s objective of building a more agile and cost-effective supply chain.
  • Driving Operational Excellence and Customer Centricity

The facility will implement modern storekeeping, packaging, forwarding systems, and robust quality controls, all geared towards timely and high-quality service delivery. By centralizing its warehousing operations, BEML reaffirms its commitment to operational excellence and customer-centric service models, key pillars of its long-term growth strategy.

Towards a Self-Reliant and Industrially Empowered India

With this initiative, BEML contributes to the Make in India vision by strengthening domestic industrial infrastructure.
