Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh: In a significant step toward bolstering its logistics capabilities and operational excellence, BEML Limited, a leading Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has laid the foundation stone for a Central Warehousing Centre in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. This modern facility is set to become a key hub in BEML’s nationwide supply chain network, streamlining operations across its core verticals.
Ground-Breaking Ceremony Led by CMD Shri Shantanu Roy
The foundation stone was ceremoniously laid by Mr Shantanu Roy, CMD of BEML Ltd, in the distinguished presence of Mr Harish Duhan, CMD of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Also present were Mr Anil Jerath, Director (Finance) and Mr Sanjay Som, Director (Mining & Construction), BEML, alongside senior officials from BEML and SECL.
The event marks a pivotal milestone in BEML’s logistics strategy and aligns with the PSU’s mission to support India’s defense and industrial infrastructure more efficiently.

Enhancing Logistics Through Digitalization and Centralization
The upcoming Central Warehousing Centre will be equipped with fully digitalized systems, including bar code-based inventory management, allowing for real-time material tracking, optimized storage, and efficient dispatch of critical spare parts. This will enable dispatch within 24 to 48 hours of customer requests, significantly enhancing service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Strategic Location Serving Key Institutional Clients
Situated on 2.63 acres in Bilaspur, the warehouse enjoys a central location with an average proximity of 510 kilometers to BEML’s major institutional customers such as:
- Coal India subsidiaries
- SAIL
- NTPC
- MOIL
- Hindustan Copper Limited
The strategic siting is expected to ensure faster service, reduced transit times, and improved inventory responsiveness.
Optimized Supply Chain and Rationalized Depot Network
The Bilaspur Centre is envisioned as a centralized logistics hub that will:
- Consolidate materials under a unified warehousing framework
- Rationalize existing depots into emergency or consignment stores for breakdown maintenance
- Reduce inter-depot transport costs
