Former CBI Director, Uma Shankar Mishra passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on Thursday. According to sources, Mr. Mishra was suffering with some old-age ailments for the past few days. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Uma Shankar Mishra, a 1968 batch Odisha cadre IPS officer, headed the CBI for from December 6, 2003 to December 6, 2005. After retirement, he was also a guest editor of an Odia vernacular daily in 2009.
A condolence meeting was held in regard to Mr. Mishra’s demise by the IPS Officers’ Association, Odisha on Thursday under the chairmanship of IPS officer Sri Abhay, DGP of Odisha.
Mishra had played an important role in arresting underworld don Abu Salem.
