The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr. Shaktikanta Das, a 1980-batch retired IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre and former RBI Governor, as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office and will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Mr. Das previously served as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from December 2018 to December 2024, where he was instrumental in steering the Indian economy through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Before his tenure at the RBI, he held key positions such as Economic Affairs Secretary and Revenue Secretary in the Government of India. Mr. Das has also represented India in various international forums, including the G20, BRICS, and SAARC.
