The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has approved the ‘Chief Minister Women’s Employment Scheme,’ aimed at boosting women’s participation in the state’s workforce. Announced during a cabinet meeting on Friday, the scheme will initially provide Rs. 10,000 as the first installment to help women start employment of their choice.
Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar, in his official statement, said that the scheme’s primary objective is to provide financial assistance to one woman from every family in Bihar. This move comes as part of the government’s continued efforts to strengthen women’s economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Direct Transfer to Bank Accounts from September
Under the scheme, funds will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, starting from September 2025. This ensures transparency and quick access to financial assistance without intermediaries.
Mr. Kumar stated that after six months of starting employment, each beneficiary’s progress will be evaluated. Based on the assessment, additional financial support of up to Rs. 2 lakh may be provided to help scale their chosen enterprise or business activity.
Women-Centric Governance in Bihar
The initiative reflects the state government’s broader vision to promote inclusive development through women-centric policies. By encouraging entrepreneurship and employment among women, the scheme is expected to enhance household income and promote long-term socio-economic upliftment across Bihar.
The timing of the scheme’s launch also coincides with heightened political activity in the state, positioning women empowerment as a key electoral theme in the upcoming polls.
