Patna: The Bihar government has launched a major initiative to support farmers by providing subsidies on high-quality seeds, aiming to improve agricultural productivity and increase farmers’ income across the state.
Under this scheme, farmers can apply for benefits until 15 May.
Subsidised Seeds Through Bihar State Seed Corporation
The scheme ensures that all types of crop seeds are made available through the Bihar State Seed Corporation Limited.
Farmers will receive high-quality seeds at subsidised rates, with some cases offering up to 100% subsidy depending on eligibility and crop category.
Officials said the initiative is designed to make premium seeds affordable for all farmers, especially small and marginal cultivators.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
To avail the benefits of the scheme, farmers must meet the following conditions:
- Must be a resident of Bihar
- Must possess valid agricultural land records
- Farmer registration must be completed on the DBT portal
Applications can be submitted through the deadline of 15 May.

Strong Distribution Network Across the State
The Bihar State Seed Corporation is actively distributing seeds through 38 district seed distributors to ensure wide coverage and timely availability.
According to official data, the corporation has made significant progress in seed distribution during the current agricultural cycles.
Large-Scale Seed Distribution in 2025–26
For the agricultural year 2025–26, the corporation has achieved major distribution milestones:
- 7,99,412 farmers benefited so far
- 76,457.79 quintals of seeds distributed
Seasonal Distribution Breakdown:
- Summer (Garama) 2025:
- 4,94,842 farmers benefited
- 62,525.75 quintals distributed
- Kharif & Rabi 2025–26:
- 17,81,021 farmers covered
- 6,66,984.51 quintals supplied
Boosting Income Through Better Seeds
Officials stated that the availability of subsidised, high-quality seeds is helping farmers reduce cultivation costs and increase productivity. Improved seed quality is also leading to higher crop yields, contributing to better income and improved rural livelihoods.
The scheme is expected to further strengthen Bihar’s agricultural sector and support long-term farmer welfare.
The Bihar government’s seed subsidy programme represents a significant step toward modernising agriculture in the state. By ensuring affordable access to high-quality seeds through a structured distribution system, the initiative aims to enhance productivity and improve the financial stability of farmers across Bihar.
