Patna: The Bihar government has taken a significant step toward supporting acid attack survivors by launching a comprehensive rehabilitation initiative aimed at restoring dignity, independence, and social inclusion for victims across the state.
The programme is being implemented by the Women and Child Development Corporation, Bihar, in collaboration with the Delhi-based Chhaanv Foundation.
Holistic Support for 160 Survivors Across Bihar
The initiative aims to benefit around 160 acid attack survivors, providing them with integrated support in key areas such as:
- Medical treatment and healthcare access
- Education and academic support
- Skill development and vocational training
- Sustainable livelihood opportunities
Officials said the goal is to help survivors become self-reliant and reintegrate into mainstream society with dignity.

20-Day Special Assessment and Support Programme in Patna
A 20-day special programme is currently underway from 15 April to 5 May at the Youth Hostel on Fraser Road, Patna. During this period, a dedicated team from Chhaanv Foundation is conducting:
- One-on-one interactions with survivors
- Physical and psychological counselling sessions
- Assessment of individual medical, social, and financial needs
This detailed evaluation is intended to design personalized rehabilitation plans for each survivor.
Focus on Long-Term Rehabilitation and Inclusion
The joint initiative between the state government and Chhaanv Foundation is aimed at building a sustainable and inclusive support system for acid attack survivors in Bihar.
The programme focuses on:
- Legal aid and justice support
- Quality medical treatment
- Psycho-social counselling
- Long-term rehabilitation and livelihood support
Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed to ensure survivors can lead dignified and independent lives.
Government Commitment to Dignified Living for Survivors
Bandana Preyashi, Managing Director of the Women and Child Development Corporation, stated that acid attack survivors often face severe social, economic, and psychological challenges.
She highlighted that the government is working with a comprehensive and coordinated approach to ensure rehabilitation through medical care, legal assistance, counselling, and skill development, enabling survivors to become self-reliant and live with respect in society.

This initiative marks an important step toward creating a stronger and more sensitive support framework for acid attack survivors in Bihar.
