Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday paid heartfelt tribute to Raipur’s first woman MLA and noted social worker, Ms. Rajni Tai Upasane, at the Police Line in the state capital. Later, he visited her residence, met the bereaved family, and offered condolences.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Mr. Kailash Soni, Mr. Santosh Sharma, Mr. Jagdish Upasane, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion to honor her legacy.
Chief Minister’s Tribute to Rajni Tai
Mr. Sai described Ms. Rajni Tai’s passing as an irreparable loss for society. He recalled her courage and patience during the Emergency, calling her life a source of inspiration. “During her tenure, she prioritized public interest and the development of Raipur. She earned a unique identity through her simplicity, honesty, and strong bond with the people. Her tireless work for women and marginalized communities will always be remembered,” Mr. Sai said while praying for the peace of her departed soul.
A Pioneering Woman in Politics
Ms. Rajni Tai Upasane passed away recently at the age of 92. In 1977, she made history by winning the assembly election on a Janata Party ticket, becoming the first woman MLA of Raipur. At a time when women’s political participation was extremely limited, her victory was a landmark achievement, reflecting her courage, determination, and the trust she inspired among the public.
Legacy of Social Service and Women’s Empowerment
Beyond politics, Ms. Rajni Tai devoted her life to social service, particularly working for the rights of women and underprivileged sections of society. Her contribution to Chhattisgarh’s social and political landscape continues to serve as a guiding light for future generations.
