Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a special welfare measure for teachers who have been honored with the Best Teacher Award at the state and national levels. The decision extends lifetime free travel in all buses of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).
Special Recognition for Awardee Teachers
Teachers receiving the prestigious Best Teacher Award will be able to travel free across the state on all GSRTC services. The benefit also extends to routes outside Gujarat where GSRTC buses operate.
The announcement came in response to representations made by the Gujarat State Awardee Teacher Federation. The Chief Minister considered their appeal and responded positively to recognize the contribution of award-winning educators.
Extending Benefits to Future Awardees
This decision will benefit 957 teachers in Gujarat who have been honored with the Best Teacher Award at state and national levels so far. The scheme is not limited to current recipients, future awardees of the Best Teacher Award will also be entitled to avail lifetime free travel under the scheme.

Officials stated that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to honoring teachers who play a vital role in shaping society. By easing their travel across Gujarat and beyond, the scheme acknowledges their lifelong service to education and community building.
