The state of Jharkhand witnessed a landmark moment with the launch of the three-day East Tech Symposium-2025 at the Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium, Khelgaon, Ranchi. The event, which commenced on Friday, marks the first time a defence expo has been held in the state, highlighting the region’s emergence as a strategic hub for defence sector collaboration and industrial development.
The event was inaugurated by Governor Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren, and Union Minister of State for Defence Mr. Sanjay Seth. Also present were Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and several senior military officials, alongside industry leaders from across the country.
Strategic Development and Defence Industry Integration in Eastern India
Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren emphasized that the event is a historic step towards integrating Jharkhand into the national defence ecosystem. With its mineral-rich landscape, industrial potential, and growing infrastructure, Jharkhand stands to become a significant contributor to India’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Soren stated, “This initiative will not only strengthen India’s defence preparedness but also provide new opportunities for industrial expansion and employment generation in Jharkhand.” He added that the state is fully committed to facilitating defence-related industries and welcomes investors and technology leaders from across India.
A Display of Technology, Talent, and Tactical Innovation
The East Tech Symposium-2025 showcases cutting-edge military equipment, defence technologies, and innovations from leading Indian defence firms and research institutions. Chief Minister Mr. Soren personally toured the exhibition area, where he interacted with defence personnel and even examined a modern machine gun, reflecting his active engagement and support for the sector.

The symposium provides a platform for defence officials, policymakers, industrialists, and startups to network, exchange knowledge, and explore strategic partnerships. With the participation of stakeholders from across the country, the expo signals a new era of industrial diplomacy and regional economic integration.
Empowering Eastern India’s Role in National Defence Production
The Union Government’s active collaboration with the Jharkhand Government underlines the importance of decentralising defence production and building regional capabilities. The defence sector, previously concentrated in select regions, is now being diversified to empower emerging states like Jharkhand.
Union Minister of State for Defence Mr. Sanjay Seth noted that holding such a significant event in Ranchi reflects the government’s vision of promoting “Defence Manufacturing for Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India). He further highlighted that the Ministry of Defence will continue encouraging states to become active partners in building a strong and sustainable defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Opportunities for Youth, Innovation, and Economic Growth
The symposium is expected to open avenues for skill development, entrepreneurship, and local employment, particularly for youth in Jharkhand. With the convergence of industry and academia at the event, there is potential for new innovations, joint ventures, and technology transfers that could spur long-term economic growth.
Educational institutions and technical universities were also invited to participate, offering students a unique opportunity to engage directly with defence technology experts and learn about the future of India’s security and industrial growth.
Towards a Stronger, Safer, and Industrially Advanced India
The East Tech Symposium-2025 aligns with India’s broader goals of strengthening its indigenous defence sector while fostering regional development. With enthusiastic participation from top defence personnel and corporate leaders, Jharkhand is poised to take its first major step into a critical sector that combines national security with industrial advancement.
The event reflects not only the state’s increasing importance in strategic national planning but also its readiness to be a key player in India’s industrial and defence future.
