New Delhi: The Eat Right Station certification has been awarded to five Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) stations as a major step toward providing safe, hygienic, and healthy food for railway passengers. The Eat Right Station certification is granted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to stations that meet strict food safety and hygiene standards under the national Eat Right India initiative.

What Is the Eat Right Station Certification

It is part of the FSSAI’s Eat Right India movement, aimed at promoting safe, nutritious, and sustainable food practices across public spaces including railway stations.

It involves detailed audits of food stalls, catering units, and food handlers to ensure strict compliance with hygiene, storage, and food safety protocols.

Stations That Received the Certification

The following five railway stations under Northeast Frontier Railway were recently awarded the Eat Right Station certification:

  • Dimapur Railway Station (Nagaland) – certified from October 24, 2025, to October 23, 2027.
  • Alipurduar Railway Station (West Bengal)
  • Kokrajhar Railway Station (Assam)
  • Golakganj Railway Station (Assam)
  • New Mal Junction Railway Station (West Bengal)

These stations successfully met the required FSSAI standards for safe food preparation, hygiene, waste management, and availability of nutritious options.

What is the Importance of Eat Right Station Certification

This certification assures passengers that food sold at these stations is prepared and served under strict safety norms. It also encourages vendors and railway management to follow best practices in food handling, storage, and cleanliness—reducing the risk of food-borne illnesses and improving travellers’ overall experience.

What are the Benefits This Initiative

  • Ensures safe and hygienic food availability for passengers
  • Encourages better food vendor compliance with food safety norms
  • Improves public confidence in food services at railway stations
  • Supports the FSSAI’s mission of healthier food habits nationwide
