In a major welfare initiative, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the incentive grant for marrying a differently-abled person has been increased from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000. This progressive step aims to strengthen social inclusion and provide financial support to those marrying differently-abled individuals.
Removal of Income Limit for Scholarships
The Chief Minister further declared the removal of the income limit for scholarships given to differently-abled students from classes 1 to 8. This ensures that all eligible children will now have equal access to educational opportunities without financial restrictions, promoting inclusive growth in the education sector.
Old Age Homes in Every District
Highlighting the government’s commitment to senior citizens, Mr. Dhami announced that every district in Uttarakhand will soon have an old age home. This move is expected to provide shelter, care, and dignity to elderly citizens, especially those without family support.
Digital Push for Social Welfare
During the interaction, the Chief Minister launched a new software for the differently-abled marriage grant and the National Family Benefit Scheme. He also facilitated the online payment of the fifth instalment of pensions under various social welfare schemes for the current financial year. Mr. Dhami emphasized that policies become meaningful only when their benefits reach people at the grassroots level with transparency and honesty.
Pensions for Differently-Abled Citizens
The state government is currently providing pensions to over 96,000 differently-abled individuals. Out of these, more than 86,000 people above 18 years of age receive Rs. 1,500 per month. Over 8,000 differently-abled children under 18 are given Rs. 700 per month for their sustenance and care.
Under the Teelu Rauteli Pension Scheme, individuals who became differently-abled during agricultural work in rural areas are provided Rs. 1,200 monthly. Additionally, those shorter than 4 feet are covered under the Dwarf Pension Scheme, receiving Rs. 1,200 every month.
Focus on Inclusive Development
The announcements reflect the Uttarakhand government’s strong emphasis on inclusive governance, ensuring that both differently-abled individuals and senior citizens are supported with targeted welfare measures. By expanding pension coverage, doubling marriage incentives, and removing educational barriers, the state is setting a model of welfare-driven governance.
