Kolkata: In a significant step towards strengthening indigenous defence capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centum Electronics Limited, a Bengaluru-based public limited company specializing in high-reliability systems for defence, aerospace, and other critical sectors.
This strategic collaboration is aimed at joint research, development, and manufacturing of advanced naval navigation systems tailored for the Indian Navy, further supporting the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
Collaboration to Drive Indigenous R&D in Naval Technology
The MoU was formally signed by Commander Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE, and Mr. Nikhil Mallavarapu, Joint Managing Director, Centum Electronics, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), CMD of GRSE, and Mr. Apparao V Mallavarapu, CMD, Centum Electronics Limited.
The agreement sets the stage for a collaborative framework to jointly develop and manufacture key components and sub-assemblies for advanced navigation systems. These systems will be installed, integrated, and tested onboard naval vessels, ensuring full operational capability. The partnership also includes modernization and upgradation services for existing navigation systems, reflecting a comprehensive lifecycle approach.
Boosting Self-Reliance in Defence Manufacturing
Describing the development as a major milestone, GRSE stated that the collaboration would enhance India’s indigenous manufacturing infrastructure in the high-technology defence sector. It reaffirms GRSE’s ongoing commitment to technological advancement and innovation, enabling the Indian Navy to benefit from homegrown, state-of-the-art solutions.
