Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has achieved a major milestone by receiving the prestigious ‘Rajbhasha Shield – First Prize’ for outstanding implementation of the Official Language Hindi during 2025-26.
The award marks the second consecutive year that GRSE has received the top honour for its effective implementation and progressive use of Hindi in official work.
The award was presented by Umesh Rai, Minister of State, Government of West Bengal, during the half-yearly review meeting organised by NARAKAS (Undertaking-2), Kolkata, at the Dhanadhanya Auditorium in Kolkata on August 25, 2026.
The award was received by Commodore P.R. Hari, IN (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, on behalf of the organisation.
GRSE Recognised for Rajbhasha Implementation
The Rajbhasha Shield recognises GRSE’s sustained efforts towards the effective implementation of Hindi in its official functioning.
The recognition by NARAKAS (Undertaking-2), constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, highlights the shipbuilder’s commitment to promoting the Official Language and encouraging greater use of Hindi across its operations.
Receiving the First Prize for the second consecutive year further reflects GRSE’s consistent efforts in this area.
GRSE Employees Honoured in Hindi Competitions
Several GRSE employees were also recognised at the event for their performance in Hindi competitions organised by NARAKAS during the year.
The employees honoured included:
- Ajay Gautam, Senior Manager (CC) – awarded in the Hindi travelogue competition.
- Abhishek Bhattacharya, Supervisor (Legal) – recognised in the Hindi essay competition.
- Nabanita Bera, Senior Manager (ES) – also awarded in the Hindi essay competition.
These recognitions highlight the participation of GRSE employees in activities aimed at promoting Hindi and strengthening the use of the Official Language.
GRSE Official Language Team Member Receives Commendation
Manish Kumar Singh, Senior Manager (Rajbhasha), GRSE, was also honoured with a Commendation Certificate for his effective and lively stage management during the commissioning ceremony of three GRSE-built warships. The ceremony was held on June 21, 2026, in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
The recognition acknowledges his contribution to the successful conduct of the high-profile ceremony and his effective use of Hindi in stage management.

The series of recognitions demonstrates GRSE’s continued commitment to the progressive use of Hindi in official work.
The organisation’s efforts extend beyond institutional recognition, with employees actively participating in Hindi competitions and official-language activities. The consecutive Rajbhasha Shield awards also underline GRSE’s sustained focus on promoting Hindi within its organisational framework.
