Patna: Bihar farmers will receive subsidised pest-management tools under the newly approved Plant Protection Inputs Distribution Scheme, aimed at protecting crops from harmful pests while reducing dependence on chemical pesticides.

75% Subsidy on Pest-Control Traps

Under the scheme, the Agriculture Department will provide pheromone traps, sticky traps and fruit fly traps at a 75% subsidy across all districts through a cluster-based system.

The traps will support pest management in crops including brinjal, paddy, maize, tomato, vegetables, guava and other horticultural crops.

The subsidy for pheromone traps includes:

  • ₹96 per set or up to ₹480 per acre for controlling gram pod borer, brinjal stem and fruit borer, and paddy stem borer.
  • ₹162 per set or up to ₹810 per acre for controlling fall armyworm in maize.
  • ₹171 per set or up to ₹855 per acre for controlling diamondback moth in vegetable crops.

Push for Safer Farming

Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said the initiative will promote integrated pest management and help farmers adopt safer alternatives to excessive chemical pesticide use.

Pheromone, sticky and fruit fly traps can help farmers manage pests while supporting safer agricultural production and reducing potential environmental impact.

Focus on Productivity and Farm Income

The scheme also aims to improve crop protection, reduce production costs and increase farm productivity by taking modern plant-protection technologies closer to farmers.

The Bihar government plans to expand the use of these environment-friendly methods among more farmers, with the broader goal of supporting healthier crops, sustainable cultivation and better agricultural income.
