Bihar Tops PMFME Approvals, Wins ‘Best State’ Award for Food Processing Push

Bihar has received the ‘Best State’ award under the PMFME scheme for securing the highest number of approvals and supporting micro food-processing entrepreneurs.

Patna: Bihar has been recognised as the ‘Best State’ under the Prime Minister’s Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme for securing the highest number of approvals under the programme.

The award was presented at the PMFME Conclave in New Delhi by Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan to Aman Sameer, Director, Industries Department (MSME and Food Processing), Bihar.

Recognition for Bihar’s Food Processing Sector

The recognition highlights Bihar’s efforts to formalise micro food-processing enterprises, promote entrepreneurship and expand institutional support for small businesses.

The PMFME scheme focuses on helping small food-processing enterprises become part of the formal economy while improving their access to financial and technical support.

For Bihar, the award reflects the growing participation of entrepreneurs in food processing and the state’s efforts to create a stronger ecosystem for micro enterprises.

Chirag Paswan Highlights Entrepreneurial Potential

Union Minister Chirag Paswan said the PMFME scheme aims to connect small food-processing enterprises with the formal economy and provide them with the financial and technical assistance required to grow.

He noted that Bihar’s achievement of securing the highest number of approvals demonstrates the state’s growing potential in food processing and entrepreneurship.

The recognition could also help create greater visibility for Bihar’s small food businesses and encourage more entrepreneurs to explore food-processing opportunities.

Industry Minister Welcomes the Achievement

Bihar Industry Minister Shreyasi Singh welcomed the ‘Best State’ recognition and described it as a reflection of the capabilities and efforts of micro entrepreneurs working in the state’s food-processing sector.

She said the government is focused on improving access to financial assistance, technical guidance and markets for small entrepreneurs.

According to the minister, the recognition can encourage more enterprises based on Bihar’s local resources and strengthen the state’s food-processing ecosystem.

Boost for Micro Entrepreneurs

The award comes at a time when Bihar is seeking to expand opportunities for small businesses and promote local value addition.

Better support for micro food-processing units can help entrepreneurs move beyond primary production by processing agricultural and locally available resources into marketable products.

The recognition under the PMFME scheme is therefore significant not only for individual entrepreneurs but also for the wider rural economy, where many small food-processing activities are linked to agriculture and local supply chains.

Focus on Local Enterprise and Employment

The expansion of micro food-processing businesses can also create opportunities across packaging, transportation, marketing and related services.

By providing greater institutional support to small entrepreneurs, the PMFME framework can help businesses formalise operations, improve their market access and build sustainable livelihoods.
