New Delhi: Senior 1992-batch IPS officer Satish Golcha, who previously served as Commissioner of Delhi Police, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Directorate of Home Guards by the Delhi government.
According to an order issued by the Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, Golcha will initially serve as OSD in the Directorate of Home Guards until the superannuation of 1991-batch IPS officer Virender Singh on September 30, 2026.
The order further states that Satish Golcha will assume charge as Director General (Home Guards) with effect from October 1, 2026.
Golcha to Take Over as DG, Home Guards From October 1
The Delhi Home Department has directed that Golcha be posted as OSD until September 30, when the present DG, Home Guards, Virender Singh, retires from service.
From October 1, 2026, Golcha will formally take over as the Director General of Delhi Home Guards.
The order also directs the Delhi Police to take Golcha on its strength for the purpose of drawing his salary against an available post until he assumes charge as DG, Home Guards.

Golcha Was Removed as Delhi Police Commissioner in July
The latest appointment comes shortly after Golcha’s sudden removal as Delhi Police Commissioner on July 17, 2026.
Following his removal, he was attached to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
IPS officer Anurag Kumar (1994: AGMUT), who was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau, subsequently replaced Golcha as the Delhi Police Commissioner.
Golcha had taken charge as Delhi Police Commissioner in August 2025 and served as the city’s top police officer until his removal in July 2026.
From DG Prisons to Delhi Police Commissioner
Before becoming Delhi Police Commissioner, Golcha was serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi.
He had also held several senior positions in the Delhi Police, including Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) and various field and administrative assignments.
During his career, he has served as DCP in multiple districts and held senior responsibilities at the Joint Commissioner and Special Commissioner levels.
Satish Golcha: 1992-Batch AGMUT IPS Officer
Satish Golcha is a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. He was born on April 30, 1967, and has a background in commerce and law.
He holds a B.Com degree, Chartered Accountant qualification and an LLB degree.
Golcha has served in several sensitive policing and investigative assignments during his career. His earlier assignments included work with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where he was associated with investigations into sensitive cases.
He also served in various capacities in the Delhi Police, including during his tenure as Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order).
Served as DGP of Arunachal Pradesh
Golcha also served as the Director General of Police, Arunachal Pradesh, before returning to Delhi.
He subsequently took charge as Director General of Delhi Prisons, overseeing the Tihar prison administration before being appointed Delhi Police Commissioner.
He was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2018.
New Assignment Comes Ahead of Superannuation
Golcha’s appointment as DG, Home Guards, comes as part of the latest senior-level posting in the Delhi administration.
He will initially serve as OSD in the Directorate of Home Guards until September 30, 2026, after which he will assume the full charge of DG, Home Guards, from October 1.
The appointment gives the senior AGMUT-cadre officer another key responsibility in Delhi after his tenure as the city’s Police Commissioner and earlier assignments in Delhi Police and Tihar Prisons.
