New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing India’s maritime capabilities at the 15th Annual Shipping & Logistics Conclave 2026, organized by The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I).
Cmde Vinith Aerat, IN (Retd.), CGM (B&TD, CC, NPD) at GRSE, shared an in-depth roadmap for strengthening India’s shipbuilding and ship repair ecosystem, highlighting initiatives to modernize infrastructure, integrate advanced technologies, and boost domestic and international competitiveness.
GRSE’s Transformation into a Modern Defence PSU
Speaking at the conclave, Cmde Vinith Aerat highlighted GRSE’s journey from a historic shipyard to a modern, multi-unit defence public sector undertaking (PSU). Today, GRSE has the capability to execute multiple projects simultaneously, managing a diversified order book that spans both defence and commercial vessel segments.
The shipyard has also expanded its export footprint while enhancing production capacity and project execution efficiency. This transformation aligns with India’s broader maritime ambitions, reflecting the nation’s focus on building self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Cmde Aerat emphasized GRSE’s investments in infrastructure modernization, advanced ship design capabilities, and technology integration. The company has adopted digital shipbuilding tools, upgraded yard facilities, and implemented innovation-driven processes to improve competitiveness and reduce delivery timelines.
He further stressed that building strong domestic shipbuilding capabilities is critical for supporting India’s maritime growth trajectory, reducing import dependence, and fostering a globally competitive shipbuilding ecosystem.
