Kolkata: In a significant move to enhance indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reintjes GmbH, a renowned German manufacturer specializing in marine propulsion gearboxes.

This partnership is expected to elevate propulsion efficiency in both defence warships and commercial vessels built in India, supporting the country’s maritime self-reliance goals.

Strengthening India’s Maritime Power

The MoU was signed at GRSE’s premises in Kolkata, marking a major step in boosting India’s defence manufacturing and commercial shipbuilding sectors. Reintjes GmbH, headquartered in Hameln, Germany, brings a legacy of engineering excellence in marine gearbox design and manufacturing.

Under the agreement, GRSE and Reintjes will collaborate on the integration of high-quality propulsion gear trains with selected engines for new vessels. These integrated systems will be fitted on both defence and export-oriented commercial ships.
