In a significant development bolstering naval capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Limited has inked a crucial agreement with the Directorate General, Defence Purchase, Ministry of Defence, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The agreement, signed on June 30th, outlines plans for the construction of an advanced Ocean-Going Tug for the Bangladesh Navy.

The tug, measuring approximately 61 meters in overall length (LOA) and 15.80 meters in width, is designed to operate with a draft of 4.80 meters under full load. It boasts impressive bollard pull capacities of 76 Tons ahead and 50 Tons astern, ensuring robust towing capabilities at sea. With a maximum speed of 13 knots under full load, the vessel is engineered to perform a range of critical roles, including ship towing, berthing assistance, and rescue operations.

Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) at GRSE, and Cmde A K M Maruf Hassan, Director Purchase (Navy) from the Directorate General Defence Purchase, Ministry of Defence of Bangladesh, were pivotal figures during the agreement signing ceremony. This milestone underscores GRSE’s commitment to enhancing maritime infrastructure and operational readiness in collaboration with international partners.

The tug’s advanced features include firefighting support, pollution control measures, and a dynamic positioning-2 system, enabling precise maneuverability in challenging sea conditions up to sea state 5.

This project follows GRSE’s recent contracts with Bangladesh for a Trailing Suction Hopper dredger and multi-purpose cargo vessels, affirming its role as a leading shipbuilding entity in the region.

Stay tuned as GRSE continues to deliver cutting-edge maritime solutions to meet global defense and maritime security requirements.
