Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday presided over a major scholarship distribution programme under the state’s flagship education initiatives, benefiting more than 13 lakh students across Gujarat. Scholarships amounting to over ₹370 crore were transferred directly into students’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, reinforcing transparency and timely delivery of benefits.
The scholarships were disbursed under key state schemes including Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana, Chief Minister Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship, and Chief Minister Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship.

The event, held in Gandhinagar, was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Education Minister Dr. Pradyumnasinh Vaja, Minister of State for Education Rivaba Jadeja, along with other senior officials and dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s sustained commitment to strengthening education access and quality at all levels.

Boost to Girls’ Education Inspired by PM Modi’s Vision
CM Bhupendra Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign has given fresh momentum to girls’ education across the country. Recalling initiatives launched during PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, he noted that programmes such as School Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav transformed the state’s education ecosystem and encouraged families to prioritise their daughters’ schooling.
He added that Gujarat has successfully implemented the Prime Minister’s vision of providing seamless and accessible education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels.
Education as the Foundation of Development
Describing education as the cornerstone of state and national progress, CM Patel urged students to pursue knowledge with dedication while taking pride in India’s cultural values. He emphasised that the youth of Gujarat will play a decisive role in building a developed and self-reliant Gujarat and contributing to a developed and self-reliant India in the years ahead.

Rapid Expansion of Education Infrastructure
The Chief Minister pointed out that Gujarat’s education infrastructure has expanded rapidly over the past two decades. From primary schooling to higher education, the state has built a robust and inclusive system. Initiatives such as improved classrooms, digital learning tools, smart schools, better teacher recruitment and skill-oriented education have enhanced the quality and reach of education.
Strong Focus on Higher Education and Skills
At the higher education level, Gujarat has developed a strong network of universities, model colleges, skill universities and specialised institutions in engineering, medical and research fields. Schemes like Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati and various merit-based scholarships have played a crucial role in improving access, continuity and participation, particularly for girl students.
Investments in hostels, STEM laboratories, vocational training and public-private partnerships have further helped align education with industry needs while ensuring inclusivity.
Empowering Students Through Direct Support
By transferring scholarships directly to students’ accounts, the state aims to reduce financial barriers to education and encourage merit-based learning. The initiative reflects Gujarat’s continued focus on empowering students, promoting equal opportunities and building a future-ready education system.
