Bihar Govt Expands PMCH Patna Women’s Ward with 90 New Beds and Upcoming Air Ambulance Service

State Initiative Aims to Provide World-Class Healthcare and Faster Emergency Services for Women by 2029
Indian Masterminds Stories

Patna: The Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is expanding its facilities for female patients with the addition of 90 new beds in the women’s ward. This expansion is part of the Bihar government’s ongoing initiative to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and provide world-class medical services within the state.

Major Expansion of Women’s Healthcare Facilities

Under the Bihar government’s redevelopment plan, hospitals across the state are seeing significant increase in bed capacity to ensure patients receive timely and high-quality care. At PMCH, the women’s ward expansion will allow more female patients to access modern and advanced treatment facilities. Health officials highlighted that the increase in beds will help organize patient care more efficiently and reduce waiting times for medical services.

New Hospital Towers Improve Capacity

Recently, PMCH inaugurated two new hospital towers with a total of 1,117 beds, ensuring 24×7 healthcare services. These new towers have already provided relief to patients not just in Patna, but across Bihar, minimizing long queues and improving overall hospital management. The addition of beds in the women’s ward complements this development and strengthens the hospital’s capacity to handle increased patient inflow.

Air Ambulance Facility to Enhance Emergency Care

To improve care for critical patients, PMCH is also set to launch an air ambulance service. The Bihar Health Department aims to complete all ongoing development and expansion projects at PMCH by 2029, including the air ambulance setup. The service is expected to become operational within the next one to two months, enabling rapid transport and treatment of emergency cases.

Vision for World-Class Healthcare in Bihar

The Bihar government, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is working toward providing state-of-the-art healthcare within Bihar, so residents do not need to travel to other states for quality medical treatment. This expansion of PMCH is seen as a key milestone in enhancing the state’s healthcare system, ensuring better medical facilities for women and improving the overall patient experience.

Key Highlights of PMCH Expansion

  • Women’s Ward Expansion: 90 new beds added for better care.
  • New Hospital Towers: 1,117 beds across two towers with 24×7 services.
  • Emergency Care: Air ambulance facility to start soon.
  • Completion Goal: All ongoing expansion projects to be completed by 2029.
  • Government Vision: Provide world-class medical treatment within Bihar, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, and reduce patient dependency on other states.

With these developments, PMCH is poised to set new standards in patient care, particularly for women, while contributing to Bihar’s long-term vision of a self-reliant and modern healthcare system.
