Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has carried out a major reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring 37 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and assigning them new responsibilities across various ranges and specialised units.
The transfers, implemented with immediate effect in public interest, include several promotions, upgrades and downgrades of posts to accommodate officers of appropriate ranks. Officials said the changes are aimed at strengthening policing and improving administrative efficiency across the state.
The reshuffle also comes ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation and district panchayat elections in major cities of Gujarat.
Key posting: Nirlipt Rai appointed DIG Rajkot Range
Among the key changes, 2010-batch IPS officer Nirlipt Rai has been transferred from the State Monitoring Cell in Gandhinagar and appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Rajkot Range.
He replaces senior officer Ashok Kumar, a 2003-batch IPS officer, who has been transferred and appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), CID Intelligence, in Gandhinagar.
Dr Shamsher Singh gets Civil Defence and Home Guards role
Senior IPS officer Shamsher Singh of the 1991 batch has been appointed Director of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards in Ahmedabad.
Singh had recently returned to Gujarat after serving on deputation with the Border Security Force and had been awaiting a posting since January.
Raghvendra Vatsa appointed IGP Ahmedabad Range
In another important transfer, 2005-batch IPS officer Raghvendra Vatsa has been moved from his position as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Surat and appointed Inspector General of Police, Ahmedabad Range.
Similarly, Nilesh Bhikhabhai Jajadia (2006 batch), earlier IGP of Junagadh Range, has been posted as Joint Commissioner of Police in Vadodara.
New Banaskantha Range created
The government has also created a new Banaskantha Range, increasing the total number of police ranges in the state to 10.
IPS officer Parikshita Rathod (2007 batch), who was serving as Inspector General of CID Crime, has been appointed Inspector General of Police of the newly created range.
Additional charges and intelligence postings
Several officers have also been assigned additional responsibilities.
Gagandeep Gambhir (2004 batch), currently Inspector General of Police (Administration) in Gandhinagar, will now also hold additional charge as IGP of the State Monitoring Cell.
Meanwhile, Gautamkumar M Parmar (2004 batch), earlier IGP Bhavnagar Range, has been transferred as IGP CID (Crime) in Gandhinagar.
Promotions and other transfers
The notification also confirmed the promotion of Makrand Govindbhai Chauhan (2007 batch) to the rank of Inspector General of Police with effect from December 1, 2025. He has been appointed DIG (Law and Order) in Gandhinagar.
Other notable transfers include:
• Bipin Shankarrao Ahire (2006 batch) appointed IGP, Cyber Centre of Excellence, Gandhinagar
• P. L. Mal (2006 batch) posted as Additional Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Ahmedabad
• Vidhi Choudhary (2009 batch) appointed DIG, Panchmahal–Godhra Range
• Vishalkumar Baldevbhai Vaghela (2009 batch) appointed DIG, State Monitoring Cell, Gandhinagar, with additional charge of the Police Recruitment Board
Gujarat Police Academy and city restructuring
Another significant change involves Leena Patil (2010 batch), who has been appointed Principal of the Gujarat Police Academy at Karai.
In Ahmedabad city police, a new Zone-8 has been created as part of administrative restructuring. IPS officer Mayur Patil has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police of the newly formed zone.
Other officers reassigned
Several other officers including N. N. Chaudhari, A. G. Chauhan, R. V. Asari, and K. N. Damor have also been given new assignments in various police ranges and specialised units across the state.
Officials said the reshuffle aims to streamline operations and improve coordination among police units.
Reshuffle takes immediate effect
According to the official notification issued by the state government, all transfers and postings will come into effect immediately.
Authorities believe the administrative overhaul will help enhance policing efficiency and strengthen law enforcement systems across the state.
