Glasgow 2026 Games Conclude, India Finishes Fourth in Medal Table

The 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded after 11 days of competition on August 2, with Scotland officially handing over hosting responsibilities to India for the 2030 Games.

India finished fourth in the medal table at the Glasgow Games with a total of 39 medals, including:

  • 13 Gold medals
  • 17 Silver medals
  • 9 Bronze medals

Although India’s medal tally was lower compared to the 61 medals won at Birmingham 2022, several factors influenced the performance.

Around 30 medals in the 2022 Games came from sports that were not included in the Glasgow 2026 programme.

Despite sending a smaller contingent of 122 athletes compared to 210 athletes in 2022, India maintained its fourth position in the medal standings and improved its medal conversion rate.

A total of 38 Indian athletes won medals, while long-distance runner Gulveer Singh was the only Indian athlete to secure two medals at the Games.

Ahmedabad Begins Preparations for 2030 Commonwealth Games

With the official flag handover completed, the focus now shifts to Ahmedabad as it prepares to host the centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. The Gujarat Government aims to strengthen sports facilities, support athletes, and ensure world-class arrangements for hosting the international sporting event.

The preparations will continue in coordination with national and international sports bodies to make Ahmedabad 2030 a landmark edition of the Commonwealth Games.
