Mehsana: At the inaugural Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) held in Mehsana, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled ambitious Regional Economic Master Plans for six key economic zones — North Gujarat, Kutch, Central Gujarat, Saurashtra, Coastal Saurashtra, and Surat. These master plans form the backbone of Gujarat’s long-term roadmap to grow its economy from $280 billion (FY 2023) to over $3.5 trillion, in alignment with the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’.
Six Regions, One Vision: Balanced and Inclusive Growth
Each of the six regional plans has been crafted with a focus on the region’s strategic and economic strengths. Together, they outline a vision for balanced development across all 33 districts of Gujarat, integrating high-impact projects and future-ready infrastructure.
The master plans include:
- Over 500 projects conceptualised
- ₹15 lakh crore+ (USD 200 billion) in public and private investments
- 28 million employment opportunities to be created
- Emphasis on green, sustainable, and inclusive growth
Focus on Advanced Manufacturing, Green Economy & Rural Development
Key sectors highlighted across the regional blueprints include:
- Advanced Manufacturing: Electric vehicles (EVs), battery storage, industrial ceramics, biologics, marine chemicals, and biofuels.
- Green and Circular Economy: Solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects, along with circular manufacturing models.
- Agri-tech & Food Processing: Dairy processing, nutraceuticals, ready-to-eat foods, and value-added agricultural products.
To boost rural development, the master plans also emphasize sustainable farming technologies and decentralized renewable energy.
World-Class Infrastructure to Drive Connectivity
Over the next two decades, Gujarat aims to develop robust physical infrastructure to support trade, logistics, and mobility. Planned initiatives include:
- Coastal railway lines and high-speed inter-state corridors
- Sea-link projects, airport expansions, and cargo terminals
- Cold-chain logistics hubs to strengthen the supply chain ecosystem
Skilling & Innovation at the Core
To meet future workforce demands, each region will establish Regional Skilling Centres and Centres of Excellence in collaboration with industries. These centres will specialize in areas such as:
- Green Skills & Blue Economy
- Artificial Intelligence and Automation
- Logistics, Mobility & Advanced Manufacturing
This focus on human capital development will prepare the youth for emerging sectors and global job markets.
GRIT to Lead Gujarat’s Economic Transformation
CM Bhupendra Patel also emphasized the role of the Gujarat State Institution of Transformation (GRIT) — inaugurated in July 2025 — as a key think tank and policy advisory body. GRIT is responsible for developing data-driven, region-specific strategies to support the successful implementation of the regional master plans.
CM’s Call to Industry: Partner in Viksit Gujarat’s Growth
Inviting investors, entrepreneurs, and global stakeholders, CM Patel said:
“Through regional economic development, the state aims to realise the vision of ‘Viksit Gujarat, Viksit Bharat’. These master plans are not just documents but roadmaps for inclusive, green, and innovation-driven growth.”
