Bengaluru: Karnataka CID has arrested IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar (IAS:2016:KN) in connection with alleged irregularities in a Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) examination conducted to recruit veterinarians.

Gangwar was arrested late on Saturday night after the CID questioned him for more than 20 hours over Friday and Saturday. Investigators reportedly alleged that he was not cooperating with the probe and gave contradictory responses during questioning.

Gangwar Sent to Judicial Custody

After his arrest, Gangwar was produced before a magistrate in Koramangala on Sunday afternoon. The court sent him to Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, for one day.

The magistrate directed the CID to produce him before an open court on Monday and seek police custody for further questioning.

Gangwar is currently posted as Director in the MSME Department. Earlier last week, he was reported missing before investigators traced him to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh, where he was visiting his ailing father.

Documents Found During Investigation

According to sources cited in the report, investigators found allegedly incriminating documents related to the KPSC examination in Gangwar’s possession.

The examination was conducted to recruit candidates for 400 veterinary posts. The CID questioned Gangwar about alleged irregularities based on evidence collected during its investigation.

Investigators reportedly questioned him under the supervision of CID SP Raghavendra K Hegde.

Allegations of Question Paper Leak

The case relates to allegations raised by examination aspirants that the question paper was leaked to selected candidates.

Complainants also alleged that middlemen demanded between ₹70 lakh and ₹80 lakh from candidates in exchange for helping them clear the examination.

Gangwar was serving as KPSC Controller of Examinations when the veterinary recruitment examination was conducted, bringing his former role under the scope of the investigation.

CID and ED Action

The CID had issued a notice directing Gangwar to appear before investigators after taking over cases registered at the Vidhana Soudha police station.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also conducted a search at his residence in Jayamahal Extension, Bengaluru, and served him a notice to appear before the agency.

The latest arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into alleged examination irregularities and the wider recruitment process.

Probe Continues

The CID is now expected to seek police custody to question Gangwar further and examine the documents and other evidence collected in the case.

The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The probe will determine the role of individuals allegedly involved in the examination irregularities, including the reported question paper leak and demands for money from candidates.

The case has also raised wider concerns over the integrity of competitive recruitment examinations and the need for stronger safeguards to protect candidates and ensure transparent selection processes.
