HAL to Manufacture High-Precision Turbine Ring Forgings

Under the agreement, HAL will manufacture near-net shape turbine ring forgings at its advanced Ring Rolling Facility located in the Foundry & Forge Division in Bengaluru.

These components are produced using high-performance superalloys capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures inside aircraft engines.

The turbine ring forgings are used in the rotating section of the CFM LEAP engine, where they play a crucial role in ensuring:

  • High engine performance
  • Operational reliability
  • Durability under extreme conditions
  • Safe aircraft operation

The project highlights HAL’s capability to manufacture complex aerospace components that meet international quality standards.

HAL Highlights Growing Global Confidence in Indian Manufacturing

Speaking after the signing ceremony, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K said the agreement reflects the strong and trusted relationship between HAL and Safran that has developed over several decades.

He stated that the long-term contract demonstrates the increasing confidence of global aerospace manufacturers in HAL’s technological expertise and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

According to Ravi K, participation in the LEAP engine programme will help HAL:

  • Expand its footprint in the global civil aerospace market.
  • Strengthen India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
  • Develop advanced aero-engine manufacturing technologies.
  • Build capabilities for future engine programmes in India.

He described the agreement as both an important business opportunity and a step toward enhancing India’s aerospace manufacturing competitiveness.

Safran Plans Stronger Local Supply Chain in India

Safran Aircraft Engines also welcomed the new agreement.

Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice President – Purchasing, said the company is pleased to continue its partnership with HAL.

He noted that the collaboration aligns with Safran’s strategy of developing a stronger locally integrated supply chain as the company increases production of LEAP engines to meet rising global demand.

The partnership is expected to support both manufacturing expansion and long-term industrial cooperation in India.

Multi-Year Partnership to Strengthen Aerospace Manufacturing

The long-term contract represents a significant milestone in the partnership between HAL and Safran Aircraft Engines.

Industry experts believe the agreement will:

  • Boost India’s participation in global aerospace manufacturing.
  • Encourage technology transfer and advanced manufacturing.
  • Support India’s “Make in India” objectives in aviation.
  • Enhance collaboration between Indian and global aerospace companies.
  • Strengthen the domestic aerospace supply chain.

As demand for commercial aircraft engines continues to grow worldwide, the collaboration positions HAL as an important supplier of high-value precision-engineered components.

HAL Expands Presence in Global Civil Aviation

The agreement also reflects HAL’s growing ambitions in the international civil aerospace sector.

By supplying critical engine components for one of the world’s most widely used commercial aircraft engine programmes, HAL is expected to strengthen its global reputation for manufacturing excellence and engineering precision.

The partnership is also likely to create new opportunities for future collaborations in aero-engine development and advanced aerospace technologies.
