Haryana: IAS Ashima Brar Takes Charge of Karnal District, Extends Oversight to Key Areas

Ms. Brar will also assess health, education, and social sectors, and address tax-related challenges in Karnal.

In a significant administrative move, the Haryana Government has appointed Ashima Brar, an IAS officer of 2004 batch, to oversee Karnal district in addition to her current responsibilities.

Ms Brar, currently serving as Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Director General, Secretary of Social Justice Empowerment, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, and Antyodaya (SEWA) Department, will now also review projects exceeding Rs. 25 Crores in Karnal.

Her mandate includes a comprehensive assessment of crime rates, particularly heinous crimes, vigilance issues under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as well as the efficiency of service delivery mechanisms outlined in the Right to Service Act. Brar will also focus on evaluating the operational parameters of health, education, and social sectors, alongside addressing challenges encountered by the District Excise and Taxation Commissioner regarding GST and other taxes.
