New Delhi / Vijayawada: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) successfully organised an MSME Defence Conclave in Vijayawada, aimed at enhancing the participation of micro, small and medium enterprises in the rapidly evolving maritime and underwater systems sectors. The event, held at Taj Vivanta, brought together key industry stakeholders, emerging entrepreneurs, and defence manufacturing experts to explore opportunities for collaboration and capacity building.
Industry–Government Partnership to Strengthen Defence Manufacturing
The conclave was organised in association with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and conducted under the guidance of the Ministry of Defence. The platform served as a bridge between MSMEs, industry leaders, and government bodies, enabling participants to understand procurement opportunities, new technology requirements, and the role of MSMEs in strengthening India’s defence industrial base.
Key Leaders Address the Conclave
HSL’s Director (Finance & Commercial) E. Kiran attended the programme as the Chief Guest, highlighting the shipyard’s efforts to support MSME-led innovation and enterprise growth.
KK Yadav, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Defence, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, sharing insights on policy frameworks and government initiatives designed to empower smaller enterprises in defence production.
Both leaders emphasised the growing importance of indigenous manufacturing and the need for a resilient supply chain driven by MSMEs.
Empowering MSMEs for Emerging Maritime Opportunities
HSL stated that the conclave underscores its continued commitment to expanding MSME participation across naval, maritime, and underwater domain technologies. Discussions revolved around:
- Opportunities in shipbuilding, repair, and underwater systems
- New procurement avenues under the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP)
- Collaboration models between shipyards, start-ups, and small industries
- Building technical capability and quality standards for defence manufacturing
The event also enabled MSMEs and start-ups to showcase their competencies and engage directly with defence-sector representatives.
Strengthening Innovation and Collaboration
Participants noted that such platforms help smaller enterprises understand defence requirements better, while enabling HSL to develop a robust supplier ecosystem for future maritime and underwater projects. The conclave reflects HSL’s proactive approach in fostering innovation, supporting local industry, and contributing to national defence preparedness.
